15 Basic "Rules" of Self-Defense
1) Pay Attention! Avoid the Trap of Familiarity.

2) Accept the fact that you are being attacked. Denial will delay your defense.

3) Be Flexible! Never force a technique to a situation.

4) Never underestimate your attacker.

5) The more Ferocious the attitude, the more effective the technique.

6) There is no such thing as "fair" in a fight for survival. Assume nothing. Expect anything.

7) Give respect freely. Give trust cautiously.

8) Keep your techniques simple, ones that you are most familiar with.

9) Fight your own fight. Capitalize on your strengths and minimize your weeknesses.

10) Running results in the least injury. But only run when it is safe to do so.

11) Don't stop if you get hurt.

12) Improvise and adapt. Utilize your environment. Understand its impediments.

13) Take advantage of any and all options and openings.

14) Action is faster than reaction. Minimize your reaction time with awareness. Maximize the attacker's reaction time with distractions.

15) If you have no defense, then attack.
